Dear Dr. S:
I had a tummy tuck two years ago and my belly button has shrunk down to the size of a pin hole. Can you fix this? And why did this happen?
Signed, Unhappy
Dear Unhappy:
The term for what has happened to your belly button is “stenosis”. This is usually caused when a surgeon does not remove enough fat around your new belly button opening at the time of abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Good news: a secondary procedure, even under local anesthesia, can remove the required fat and give you a normal looking belly button thus getting rid of the stenosis (narrow opening).
