What Is It?

New moms love their babies, but many do not love their post-baby bodies. The weight and hormonal changes from pregnancy can cause mothers to gain weight, lose firmness in their belly, and develop sagging breasts. We address these conditions with a comprehensive approach that we call a Mommy Makeover. With a Mommy Makeover, you can return to a more youthful and pre-pregnancy-like body. Depending upon your particular needs, Dr. Schlesinger will help you to determine if you are a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover and which procedures are best for you.

Mommy Makeover: Details and Procedure

A Mommy Makeover refers to a group of procedures, and since every mom is different, every makeover is different. A Mommy Makeover most often includes a tummy tuck, but can also include liposuction and breast lift and/or breast augmentation. The common tummy tuck procedure involves Dr. Schlesinger making an incision along the bottom of your abdomen to remove excess skin and fat, and reshape and firm your abdominal muscles. You will be sedated during the procedure, but when you wake up, you will see immediate results.

Another procedure common in a Mommy Makeover is a breast lift. You should wait to do this after you have finished breast feeding since the procedure involves moving your nipples higher and reshaping the breasts to achieve a perkier, fuller look. Talk to Dr. Schlesinger during your free consultation about any concerns or questions you have about your Mommy Makeover.

What to Expect from a Mommy Makeover

Pregnancy stretches the muscles in one’s abdomen, and weight gain expected in pregnancy can lead to extra fat and skin in one’s abdomen which stubbornly refuses to respond to diet and exercise. If you plan to have another child in the future, you’ll want to discuss that with Dr. Schlesinger during your free initial consultation.

Mommy makeovers can help you approach the body you had before your baby, and in some cases, can exceed the body you had before your baby. You will see results as soon as you wake up from the surgery, but post-operative swelling and the usual course of wound healing may mean that it will take two to three weeks for the full results of your mommy makeover to be seen. If you had a tummy tuck, you might not be able to stand up perfectly straight for about a week, but once you heal from your Mommy makeover, you will be able to enjoy your new body along with your new baby.
