What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a common cosmetic procedure that removes fat deposits in specific areas of the body. The liposuction procedure uses a narrow stainless steel tube, called a cannula. The cannula is connected to a suction pump and is inserted through a small incision. Following the procedure, the result is an improved body contour. You should talk to Dr. Schlesinger to see if you are a good candidate for a liposuction procedure.

How Liposuction Works

“Lipo” means fat, and liposuction is literally a procedure done to vacuum out excess fatty deposits from the legs, stomach, chest, neck, chin, hips, buttocks, and upper arms. Other sites for potential fat removal are possible and can be discussed with Dr. Schlesinger.

During the procedure, you will be sedated. Dr. Schlesinger will inject you with a solution to decrease bleeding.

What Can Liposuction Do for Me?

In rare cases, some patients may not be candidates for liposuction. Talk to Dr. Schlesinger about your expectations from the procedure. Afterwards, you will have some natural swelling and water retention. These conditions should subside within a week, and then you will see an obvious improvement in your appearance from the reduction of localized fat deposits. Other procedures might be needed to get you a more natural appearance after having the fat removed. Talk to Dr. Schlesinger if you have any further questions or concerns.
